YOGA for babies - 5 week course

Welcome to our “Yoga for babies” course. This course is especially designed for babies 12 weeks to pre-crawling age, which will vary from child to child and it is a perfect opportunity for caregivers and their babies to bond and explore.

What to expect?

It’s a fun group, filled with songs and movements for your baby. This helps strengthen their physical body, stimulate their senses, improve their digestion and can provide relief for colicky babies. Performing new movements and holds with your baby provides the tactile stimulation necessary for development of their brain and nervous system. The class will enhance communication between you and your baby, helping your baby move from reflex to voluntary movements. The physical benefits include; an increase in blood flow which can stimulate cell growth, strengthening of muscles, encourages straight and supple spinal growth as well as maintaining flexibility in the spine and joints. Through stimulating the receptors in the skin, baby yoga can increase the efficiency of your baby’s nervous system and promote hormonal balance.

Emotionally it will increase the bond between you and your baby, assist your confidence in handling your baby using a variety methods, build trust and understanding of your baby’s needs and provides the essential security for your child as they become accustomed to your touch, voice and smell. Baby yoga can help ease tension and encourage a more relaxed and calm demeanour. It can be a fun way to learn new skills for your babies enjoyment and watching their positive reaction can be highly rewarding.

Donna is an incredible person and a real life mix between the little mermaid and Marry Poppins. The little mermaid because of her fabulous pink hair ( rumor has it it‘s magical) and her sparkly fishtale leggings. And Mary Poppins because she is an actual nanny and has tons of knowledge about how to care for children - which she is always happy to pass on to new moms and dads.
Baby yoga is a wonderful course that offers a lot of bonding time for mother (or any other care taker) and the baby. It is not like a regular yoga class for adults. This course`s has main focus lies the wellbeing of the babies. Over the course of an hour the babies get massages and we do different movements for the legs, arms and hips that help improve mobility and allow them to stretch - all while the mommies are singing beautiful nursery rhymes - my favourites are “Hello Mr. Sun” and “the Wheels on the Bus”. But the best thing of all was how much Taran loved the class! He was smiling almost all of the time (except for that one morning where he decided to take a nap and just fell asleep mid session :-) ). Starting the course at just 12 weeks old he was by far the youngest participant with other babies ranging from 4 months to 7 months. It was incredible to see the progress of each baby from week to week. And it was lovely to meet other mothers and their lovely babies. We had a wonderful group of 7 participants which meant that the class was still small enough to meet everyone on a personal level and get a lot of care and attention from Donna.

About Donna

Hi, my name is Donna and I have been working with children for over 10 years. I started my childcare career running activity groups for the local services in the UK. This included leading: a singing and sensory group for babies from birth to two years, called Rhyme Time; Busy Bodies, a music, movement class, messy play class and Makaton sing and sign sessions.

I gained experience as a sole charge nanny working in England before moving here to Switzerland five years ago to nanny, sole charge, for two amazing little boys. As the boys get old my position is changing and will become part time. In preparation for this transition I decided to study and have gained qualifications in: maternity nursing, breastfeeding and nutrition, developmental baby massage, baby yoga (levels 1 and 2) and yoga for toddlers up to 4 years. I also currently hold a level 4 sleep consultancy qualification and am currently undergoing training to complete level 5 holistic sleep consultancy.

I love working with children and am very excited to embark on my new adventure teaching yoga for babies and toddlers.
